Space is limited to 12 participants.
Overview

As the trend in Thoracic surgery continues to move toward less invasive procedures, Video assisted Thoracic surgery (VATS) will enable Surgeons to move aggressively to adopt minimally invasive surgical approaches for traditional open procedures. These techniques significantly reduce patient morbidity by reducing incision size, tissue trauma, and time spent under general anesthesia. This course will give participants the opportunity to understand the VATS approach through didactic sessions and hands-on experience with a novel simulator model. The training seminar will be kept small to allow close interaction with the faculty.

Target Audience

This workshop is designed to meet the educational and training needs of board certified cardiothoracic surgeons, as well as others who may assist these cardiothoracic surgeons in practice.

Objectives

At the completion of this program the participant will be able to:
  • Explain basic thoracoscopic instrumentation and surgical techniques
  • Describe patient selection criteria for thoracoscopic procedures
  • Identify techniques and outcomes associated with thoracoscopic procedures
